Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@howtoboating.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

If you're looking for docking lessons, boating lessons, boat lessons, docking instruction, boating instruction, or if you're asking the questions "how to drive a boat", or "how to dock a boat", we are here to teach YOU to be more confident docking ANY boat! This includes all the safe boating practices you need! Start with the introductory course in 4 hours then move to perfecting your craft with more time.

How To Boating on-water training introductory course is 4 hours. We realize the hardest part of boating is maneuvering in tight spaces and docking - that is what we focus on. By the end of the 4 hours you can go from zero to hero on the water!

Our course starts with getting familiar with the way your boat handles. We do this by performing specific maneuvers to see how reactive your boat truly is. Once we are comfortable, we move on to perform those maneuvers in tighter areas to create skill. As we get better, we move on to docking on a face dock with wind and current, then move to docking in slips with wind and current.

No. If you have your own boat, our goal is to get you as comfortable as possible on it! We will meet you at your boat's location and practice on your own waterways.

Any others can join along absolutely FREE! This is what we encourage at How To Boating. We give you a ton of information that may be overwhelming, so it helps to have someone else there to remember what you may forget!

Meet Captain Harley

Captain Harley: Owner of How To Boating L.L.C.

In January 2024 Captain Harley had a vision to teach people boating tips and how-to’s on social media. His time spent working on sailboats, government research vessels, fishing/crabbing vessels, SCUBA diving vessels, and high-end luxury yacht charters has given him the opportunity to learn how different vessels are run as crew and as a captain. This experience, paired with a background in leadership roles, allows Harley to effectively capture attention through his unique teaching style both on social media, and hands-on instruction. Harley has captured hundreds of millions of views across all social media platforms by teaching boating safety, how to dock boats, boating rules, and much more. His goal is to share that knowledge to everyone who wants to learn the ‘how-to’s’ of the industry.

Meet Captain Eddie

Captain Eddie: Fort Lauderdale, Florida: Instructor

Based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Captain Eddie's passion for the water led him to pursue a career in the boating industry. He grew up in Puerto Rico, where boating and trips to islands like Icacos, Palomino, Culebra, and St. Thomas were a natural part of life. After college, his passion for the water led him to South Florida. Starting as a mate, he quickly advanced to operating luxury yacht charters, using the experience and intuition he developed from years on the water back home.

Alongside his boating career, Eddie also worked as a functional fitness instructor, where he discovered a genuine passion for teaching and helping people build confidence. That love for instruction, paired with his boating background, aligned perfectly when he joined How To Boating. The role allowed Eddie to merge both skill sets—his knowledge of boating and his ability to teach—into one meaningful career. Today, he focuses on guiding and empowering new boaters, sharing the expertise he’s gained through years of experience on the water.
